SonoCine services offered in Los Angeles, CA

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women in the United States. A mammogram is the most common screening tool for breast cancer but may not provide accurate results for women with dense breast tissue or breast implants. At SonoBreasts in Santa Monica, California, Jasmine Khorsandi and the team use SonoCiné® Automated Whole Breast Ultrasound (AWBUS™) to screen for breast cancer. To find out more about this advanced breast cancer screening tool, call the office or schedule an appointment online today.

Abdomen Ultrasound Q&A

What is SonoCiné?

SonoCiné AWBUS is a whole breast ultrasound machine that screens for breast cancer. SonoCiné uses ultrasound technology to scan the entire breast — all the way to the chest wall. The advanced breast cancer screening tool also scans the lymph nodes.

During one 10 to 15-minute session, SonoCiné records 3,000 images that it transforms into a video simulation for the radiologist to review — without squeezing your breast tissue.

What are the benefits of SonoCiné for breast cancer detection?

SonoCiné offers many benefits for women in need of breast cancer screening. Testing for breast cancer has been an ongoing effort and an unfortunate tragedy for the over 3,000 women dying every month who die from breast cancer.

Cancer diagnosis and treatment in Western medicine have improved, but less so for breast cancer screening. Mammograms remain the primary screening tool but have many inefficiencies, especially for detecting preliminary stages of cancer.

Women with dense breast tissue or breast implants may not get an accurate breast cancer screening from a mammogram. Studies show that 10% of women have extremely dense breast tissue. Dense tissue or breast implants may block the view of cancerous tissue.

SonoCiné doesn’t have this problem. With its ultrasound technology, SonoCiné can detect cancerous lesions as small as 3 millimeters, including lobular and ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). Finding breast cancer during the early stages improves your response to treatment and your chance of a full recovery.

SonoCiné is also more comfortable than a mammogram. With SonoCiné, there is no compression, radiation, or injections. You can have it alone for breast cancer screening or use it as a helpful complementary screening.

Some of the hottest women’s publications like Goop and Vogue have even featured this innovative breast cancer screening tool.

What can I expect during a SonoCiné ultrasound?

You can expect a quick, comfortable, and painless experience during your SonoCiné ultrasound at SonoBreasts. Your sonographer has you put on the proprietary SonoCiné camisole, which holds the breast in place.

You lie back on the exam table, and the sonographer applies a water-based gel on your skin from under your armpit to below the breast. They use a hand-held ultrasound wand and scan the entire area in and around your breast on both sides.

The SonoBreasts team sends your ultrasound breast cancer screening video to a radiologist, who has your results in less than a week.

You don’t need a prescription from your health care provider to have a breast cancer screening with SonoCiné at SonoBreasts. To find out more about SonoCiné for breast cancer detection, call the office or schedule an appointment online today.
